Reset Button - A New Name

  1. What are some reasons people do not hit the reset button?

  2. Read 2 Corinthians 5:17-21 and Isaiah 62:2. - What negative labels follow your name? How have these labels influenced the way you see yourself? • Why do so many of us accept negative labels and let them define us?

  3. How should having a God-centered view of yourself change the way you see yourself?

  4. What new name would best describe your new life in Christ?

  5. Read Matthew 16:17-18, Jeremiah 29:11 and Philippians 3:13-14. • In what ways have you seen your strengths grow out of your weaknesses? What God-given purpose are you growing into? -What next step do you need to take to embrace that purpose?

Homework- On your Own- Write a label that you feel you either still have or lingers and then next to it write a new name. (Eg. Average- extraordinary, addict- overcomer,) What does it look like to see a new purpose and future?

Taste and See - Eat my Flesh and Drink my Blood

  1. What are some other Christian Phrases that sound very weird to outsiders, but have deep meaning?

  2. Read 2 Sam 23:13-17- What does this passage teach us about the words we say? Why does David pour it out? Bigger picture? What can blood represent in this passage?

  3. Why do you think Jesus uses the cannibal and blood images to teach here?

  4. Jesus places a lot of emphasis on believing in John 6 and the bread of life passages, but also on the physical act of chewing. Where’s the balance between internal and external aspects of faith?

  5. Based on how much importance Jesus places on Communion, should there be more restrictions, should it be more often, or what are your thoughts on communion in general?

Taste and See - I am the True Vine

  1. When you hear the word “Abide” what things come to mind?

  2. Read Isa 5:1-5- What strikes you about this passage? What did God that provided for them? What does He do for us to help us grow?

  3. What do you think the difference is between discipline and pruning?

  4. Steve alluded to different levels of quality of wines. Are there different levels of Christians? What are the things that show those differences? Or what’s wrong with this line of reasoning?

  5. God wants us not just to survive but thrive. How so? When you think about bearing fruit, what does that look like to you? What happens when we show our fruit?

  6. Read Matt 6:9-13, what stands out from the sermon and what Jesus calls us to pray for, besides just bread. Are there other connections?

Taste and See - I am Living Water

  1. Share a place that involves water in some way that is meaningful. A lake, a waterfall, ocean, what is it about that place that is refreshing or beautiful? Highlight the water portion.

  2. Why do you think John is so obsessed with water in his first 7 chapters? Water to wine, healing water, walking on water, living water?

  3. Read John 7:37-41- Why did the people assume he was special after hearing this? What stands out to you in this passage?

  4. Reading the Old Testament with Jesus as the lens changes everything. What are the pros and cons of this concept? How did you feel about looking at the prophecy passages through the lens of the Church, instead of Israel?

  5. What are some other images of water that could be applied? Cleanse, refresh,. Etc? How should ‘living water’ be flowing out of us?

The Difference Jesus Makes - That Changes Everything (Easter)

  1. Steve kept saying ‘encounter’ Jesus, what does that mean to you?

  2. All of the disciples could not seem to recognize Jesus. How do we struggle to see Him today? They were expecting a certain kind of Messiah, do we still make that mistake?

  3. Read Luke 24:30-32- Why do you think Jesus makes the connection to Adam and Eve’s first meal? What does it mean to have our hearts burn within us?

  4. Steve mentioned the phrase ‘New Exodus’, what are some connections between what Moses did and Jesus is up to?

  5. When we encounter Jesus we get bolder, our faith increases and our concern for others increases. Which of those stood out or what would you add to that list?
