Kids Hope Australia
Kids Hope Australia is a mentoring program developed by World Vision that helps at-risk Australian children and their families. Through a partnership between local churches and primary schools, Kids Hope works to improve opportunities for mentored children in the areas of education, self confidence and wellbeing.
What's Involved
GracePoint runs Kids Hope at La Perouse Public School.
For one hour each week, caring adults from GracePoint mentor at-risk children from La Perouse Public School.
This usually involves helping the child with:
- homework
- playing games
- arts and crafts, or just spending time together.
Mentors are matched with one child who they work one on one with for an hour each week of the school year.
Mentor Support
Mentors are thoroughly trained to understand
- how they can build a caring relationship with their mentored child
- learn how to enhance their learning capacity and help build resilience.
Each mentor is supported by the Program co-ordinator and a prayer support partner.
Mentors are required to commit for at least one academic year.
Many mentors are usually prepared to continue beyond that time.
